Directing a shoot through face time was already on my list of to do's since the pandemic hit, but when i had saw online Vogues attempt at using the format and presenting it on such a huge scale, it really gave me the ambition and inspiration to want to do it myself. I think the way in which they managed to communicate the recognizable high fashion styling that is their own is remarkable considering the conditions applied. Little elements are truly the focal point, the use of the helium balloon adds that level of unusual creativity we regularly see in their magazines, ad even to the way Bella is dressed all round just makes up for a quality, and professional layout in such a memorable time. The shots I've chosen are quite minimalist, the white walls in the background of the shots present this chic, and modern surrounding, and Bella is just the highlight to top it all off. This shoot has without a doubt inspired me, i feel if i was to eventually give face time a go, i'd be hoping for a similar outcome as i just think it's such a fascinating substitute to the current climate. It showcases the ability to adapt as artists and photographers in any situation, and i want to prove to myself that i'm able and willing to overcome and adapt under any situation and still present work that i'm proud of.
Experimenting with the use of Face time actually proved to be more difficult than i had first imagined, it was strange handling a shoot in a location you don't particularly know very well, and even trying to get to grips with not being able to approach the model were an evident struggle across the shoot. I like to have full control when shooting and when using face time you're only in control to an extent, and even then its a small extent. My biggest inspiration going into this shoot was probably the Bella Hadid shoot by Vogue as its the only face time shoot I've seen that i thought was done exceptionally well and proved that you can achieve exceptional outcomes through this format. Even to the way my model was clothed, the use of underwear and an eye catching top all stem from the Vogue shoot. Communications wise, my model was beyond my expectations and complied with every wish and idea i had which helped in understanding that there was no thing we couldn't do, and that we trusted each other, i think a level of trust with the person you're shooting with is vital in this regard as you want the best outcome, and you're going to get that when your ideas are respected by your model. I faced quite a large issue when i began shooting i had noticed later on that a photo would take a longer time to appear in my camera roll, putting this down as just a minor technical fault, i continued to shoot. Overall i had shot with my model for around an hour, experimenting with a number of locations around her home and had reached a point where i was satisfied with the results. To my surprise when i later opened my camera roll to browse the images, they were gone, i only the first say 10 images from the very beginning of my call. I've taken it as a learning curve and in future to just double check that everything is running smoothly without assuming as anything could go wrong. I'd definitely be up for trying to shoot through face time again as overall i enjoyed myself, but i think to really have a strong outcome i just need to realize the precautions.
