"The life and career of fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen: from his start as a tailor, to launching and overseeing his eponymous line and his untimely death."
I had previously watched the McQueen documentary before going into this final major project but as a refresher i had to just watch it again. I often find myself returning to view McQueen's work throughout his career, whether it be his early work at central saint martins college inspired by Jack the ripper, or the late designers final collection "Platos Atlantis", i'm instantly reminded that the man was a misunderstood genius who revolutionized and changed the mold of what was expected of a fashion designer at the time. My favourite collection from McQueen was the 1995-96 "Highland Rape". The collection is considered to be the one that established McQueen's reputation not only as a world class designer, but an activist fulled on national pride. McQueen often communicated powerful and thought provoking topics that were very personal to him. So again it all comes down to what are my issues with today's current society, how do i communicate the current climate through art as Alexander did. |
